One of the best appetizers, to be served hot.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Dough:
  • 2 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 3 1 coffee cup cooking Mazolla oil
  • 4 pinch of salt
  • 5 water (as needed)
  • 6 Filling:
  • 7 200 g fetta cheese (or bulgari)
  • 8 300 g sweetened Akkawi cheese (for cooking)
  • 9 1 egg

DIRECTIONS

  • 1 Dough:mix the flour, oil, and saltadd water gradually until you have a consistent dough (not sticking)
  • 2 Filling:mash the fetta, Akkawi cheese and the egg well until you have a homogenous mixture
  • 3 Pie: roll the dough, cut it into small circles.
  • 4 Put some filling inside eachclose each piece by turning the borders inside.
  • 5 Fry in hot oil until golden or
  • 6 Place on well greased baking sheet and bake in apreheated oven until lightly brown.
  • 7 Serve hot or cold.

TIPS

You can add chopped parsley or black cumin seed to the cheese mix.

 

HEALTHIER VERSION

For people suffering from high blood pressure, cheese must be soaked in water to lower the Sodium content. To make this appetizer healthier, spray baking sheet with oil then spread the cheese pies and bake them in the oven until lightly brown.
